Forest Management Video Series

In part 1 of Aitkin County SWCD’s video series on forest management, we visit Dan Steward’s property in Itasca County to learn about how he sustainably manages white pine on his property to create diverse deer and grouse habitat while protecting water quality.

In part 2 of the Forest Management series, we discuss how Steve and Julie Hughes in Aitkin County were able to work with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to successfully harvest their basswood, aspen, and ash forest to create deer and grouse habitat, protect their shoreline, and maintain their trail systems.

Part 3 focuses on the thinning of a crowded red pine plantation, giving the best trees plenty of space to grow.
